An advanced look at the blood supply to the pancreas and duodenum

Transcript

In this screen-cast James outlines the complex arterial supply to the pancreas and duodenum.

These organs have an important role in delivering digestive juices to enable the breakdown of ingested food for absorption. The duodenum and pancreas receive their arterial supply from two arteries: the superior and inferior mesenteric.

Having viewed this screen-cast you should be able to:

  1. Describe the blood supply to the pancreas and duodenum originating from the superior mesenteric artery
  2. Describe the blood supply to the pancreas and duodenum from the inferior mesenteric artery
  3. Outline the anatomises that occurs at the head of the pancreas
