An advanced look at the rectus sheath

Transcript

In this first of two screen-casts detailing the formation of the rectus sheath James outlines the arrangement of the external oblique, internal oblique and transversus abdominis muscles.

He outlines the aponeurotic layers that form the anterior and posterior boundaries of the rectus sheath. Importantly he describes the formation of the rectus sheath above and below the level of the umbilicus.

In the second part of this video James continues to outline the complex arrangement of the rectus sheath.

He describes the rectus sheath in sagittal view which is a plane just lateral to the midline. This way we can appreciate the transition of the rectus sheath at the level of the umbilicus.

Having watched his video you should be able to:

  1. Describe the arrangement of the rectus sheath above the umbilicus
  2. Describe the arrangement of the rectus sheath below the umbilicus
  3. The formation of the arcuate line
*Please note that due to the highly visual nature of this screen-cast no transcript is available.
